Local Produce Market - Porthmadog
A new local produce market will be launched in Porthmadog on Saturday 11.12.2010. Taking place at the Porthmadog Arts Centre by the harbour between 9:30am and 4:00pm, the market will be officially opened by local S4C star and gardening expert Russ Jones. Following the launch the market will take place on the last Saturday of each month.
The market is a joint venture by Llwyddo yng Ngwynedd: Gwynedd's Offer - Local Produce and Sustainable Gwynedd, following a call from local residents and producers to establish a local produce market in the town.
As well as launching the market, extra festive events will also take place including cookery demonstrations from tv chef Nerys Howell, gardening workshops with Russ Jones and a cheese tasting session with Geraint Hughes of Y Bwtri.
As well as meeting numerous local producers, visitors top the first market will also have a chance to meet Santa Clause - and the first 200 visitors to the market will each recieve a free pack of local produce and £5 voucher to spend at the local produce market.
Amongst the producers attending the market are Lleyn pork producers Traed Moch, Oink Oink, Nantmor's The Mushrooms Garden and Porthmadog brewers Purple Moose Brewery.
The market will run as a pilot scheme until the end of 2011 but organisers are confident the market will prove popular with both local consumers and producers and will continue well into the future.
